THE SALMON, WHALES, AND WE: A HOLY TRINITY.

THE SALMON, WHALES, AND WE: A HOLY TRINITY.

To the Chinook fishermen and industry; please pause fishing for West Coast Salmon, and to consumers; please pause before you purchase.

Doing this one simple act will create a ripple affect, and help extend what could otherwise be the last days of the resident orca; as the orca’s diet consists almost entirely of salmon.

More than 300,000 recreational fishing licences a year are issued in B.C. We are taking from the mouths of these extraordinary creatures who are noted to share their salmon with the entire pod instead of consuming it all for themselves. Perhaps we should extend this same virtue of generosity, and leave the salmon to the orca.

BACK OFF, YOGI!

Orcas are listed as an endangered species, and are on the way to a complete pod loss. A newborn calf recently died, and it looks like she did not have enough blubber to allow her to float due to being malnurished during her fetal development. The dwindling salmon are the orca’s main food supply, and because they are being over-fished, they are becoming harder for the orcas to find.

The salmon fishing industry only supports a small number of humans who, with the governments help, should have the ability to find a different income source. Orcas do not have that luxury to switch food supply.

This is a scientific conclusion that is too for late for the resident pod that visits Victoria, B.C., Canada, but perhaps the simple act of not eating salmon could provide a miracle.

SALMON SEEDLINGS

TRUE AND FAR

COULD NEVER SEE THE SEA;

FOR IN BETWEEN THE SPARE AND SPARCE,

WE FISHED ETERNITY.

A BROKEN SYSTEM,

WEBS OF WISDOM

WORN WITH DIGNITY

COMES WEATHERED VISION,

FROUGHT SUSPICION;

COLD AND CULLED A CREED.

BUT WITH YOUR LIGHT,

AND BRILLIANT MIND,

THE WHALES WILL FIND THEIR FEED,

AND IN THE NIGHT,

WILL BE UNITED;

BROUGHT TO SHARE THE FEAST.

SO THANK YOU, LORD,

FOR HE HAS POURED

HIS GIFTS UPON THE WEAK;

AND WITH OUR HELP,

THEY GENTLY FELT

THEIR FREEDOM COME TO BE.

THE SALMON, WHALES, AND WE;

A HOLY TRINITY.

Imagine the pride of your families and your descendants being responsible for the possible rescue of the resident Orca pod.

To sports fishermen catch and release, and to everyone else; unless you don’t mind never seeing an Orca breach again, or your child, grandchild, or great grandchild ever experiencing the wonders of watching the whales; then go ahead and enjoy your next bite, but please first consider these beautiful, sentient beings, that for thousands of years have share the waters around you; asking nothing in return but respect.
